Developer Triki Technologies came up with the Go! ExtractIcons application to meet a very specific need – that would be the need to view, extract, edit, and merge icons. With the help of this application you can easily extract icons from EXE, DLL, and other file types. After you extract the icons, you can view them, save them, or merge them. The choice is up to you.

The Go! ExtractIcons installation file is inside a 3.5MB archive; with a high-speed internet connection, it will not take long for the download to complete. Extract the contents of the archive, run the appropriately name Go! ExtractIcons Installer executable, click through the setup wizard, and the application will be ready to use on your PC (a PC powered by Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, with .NET Framework already installed).

You will get the feeling that Go! ExtractIcons wants to go straight to work when you first launch the application. That’s because the application presents you with the “Search icons” prompt by default. You can close it if you want to take a closer look at the interface. The thing is that there isn’t much to see. At the top there’s the standard Menu Bar, underneath it there are buttons for Back, Forward, Properties, Search icons, Save Icons, and a handy search box. The two panes underneath do not display anything because you haven’t performed a search yet.

The easiest way to start a search is to click the Search Icons button I mentioned above; alternatively, you can go to the File Menu and select the Search Icons option. It must be mentioned here that in the File menu there’s an option for searching icons on websites.

When you hit the Search Icons button, the same prompt you saw when you first launched the Go! ExtractIcons application shows up. Shell32.dll is selected as the default location to search for icons. To get a taste for what the application can do, you can leave it like that and hit the Search Icons button from the bottom right hand corner. Or you can select another file or folder to scan. Alternatively, you can search for icons in a specific process.

No matter which option you choose, Go! ExtractIcons will do its job rapidly and it will present all the icons it finds. What you do next is up to you; your options are to view icons, save them, or merge them.

Just like WallSlideshow, another application from the same developer, Go! ExtractIcons is freeware.

Looking for a handy way to extract icons? Look no further than Go! ExtractIcons.

Pros

Takes very little time to download and install Go! ExtractIcons on a Windows PC. The Search Icons dialog is automatically displayed when you launch the application. You can search for icons on websites. You can search for icons in running processes. View, save, merge icons. Go! ExtractIcons is freeware.

Cons

None that I could think of.
